I have always thought lighting can make a huge difference to your home and your mood. While renovating our 1960’s house to open plan with large windows, we went for a clean Scandi look with white walls and light wood floors. Coming from a 17th Century cottage and Victorian House before that, I was excited with the fresh challenge to mix modern and retro. We decided to enrich our neutral palette with metallic colours in the lighting.
Unfortunately for our budget, I developed an obsession with Tom Dixon Lighting, walking past Heals window in Brighton.
Ball Floor Light in Copper, by Tom Dixon
I had never heard of Tom Dixon, but I saw the Heals window display of pretty misshapen (Melt) pendants and ball floor and pendant lights, it was magical. The mirrored copper exterior and rich copper interior so different. Eventually after stalking it for years, we managed to buy the ex-display model. Tom Dixon obsession started!
I couldn’t find it online at Heals anymore, but I found via Andlight.co.uk
Dining Room Pendant by Tom Dixon “Cut” (Tall) in Chrome from Heals.com
My favourite light in our home is the pendant light over our dining room table. Originally I had a different one in mind, but Heals had updated their display and Tom Dixon had been busy and the Cut just stood out amongst all the others.
The evening picture shows it is transparent and shines like a diamond when lit. When it’s not lit it is opaque chrome which is perfect for the room and the greige table.
This is a total indulgence, but I don't plan on ever replacing it and when I compromise, I sometimes regret it. We bought the bulb that Heals.com displayed it with, because the filament is so pretty and bounces off all the windows, yes they saw us coming......
In a recent search I found the Cut (Tall) light discounted at madeindesign.co.uk.
Island Lights from Heals.com
While looking at the dining table light, I fell in love with these simple pendant bulbs, these are the same bulbs as inside the dining table light. These LED bulbs "are energy saving bulbs of the 21st century, low cost to run, and environmentally friendly". But to be honest I just love how they look.
Bell Table Lamp in Copper, by Tom Dixon
This is the prettiest table lamp; it can be dimmed and is so
beautiful lit or not. I built my collection up over time and this was my second purchase at least 3 years ago. Currently Heals.com have 20% off this lamp.
Nowadays there are lots of similar lamps around, this one from Made.com is a great alternative at a fifth of the price.
Hall Lamp, from Made.com
For the hall, I chose this pretty lamp from Made.com. It glows gold when lit and is a lovely welcome home, set on a timer. I managed to get it in the sale at made.com. They now have a silver & black one in the sale for £65.00 (at the time of writing).
Arched Copper Lamp from Wayfair.co.uk
I imagine you are thinking you are over the copper by now and you are probably right. I may have overdone it, but I have always wanted one of these arched floor lamps. Mine was from Wayfair & around £132.00 it is beautiful and excellent value. Re-looking today, I couldn't find the exact one, however Wayfair have many similar models, priced reasonably.
